David Devere of Savvy Nomad is a traveler, adventurer, entrepreneur and enthusiast of living a full life. He has traveled extensively. He worked for the United States Antarctic Program between 1995 and 1999.

In 2003, he and partner Sara Duke started a small publishing company, On-Word Bound Books. In addition, he continues to work outside of publishing on personal interests and new projects.

David enjoys history, culture, food and wine. These interests led him to earn a Certified Specialist of Wine accreditation from the Society of Wine Educators in 2012.  A trip in 2011 on the Canal du Midi in the South of France was such an enjoyable experience he redoubled his efforts toward helping people explore, taste, and travel our beautiful blue planet.

Tasting wine is traveling without moving, and cruising the canals of France is just plain spectacular.  Combine wine tasting with canal boating and add a bit of entrepreneurial spirit, and Savvy Nomad Tasting & Tours was born.

Wine Tasting: Terroir, Tips and Tastes

By David Devere

The world of wine is large and diverse. Does navigating the wine aisle intimidate you? Do you look at the restaurant’s wine list and just pick a color and price? Do you struggle with deciding what to pair with what food?

This class will cover simple techniques to improve your wine experience. Learn how to understand what wine tastes like before you open the bottle. Learn simple concepts to properly pair wine with a meal. We will discuss how wine is made, labeled, and priced. We will sip, swirl, taste, evaluate, and decode why one wine is scored 80 points and another is scored 90. This is a fun, easy-going discussion about humanity’s oldest libation, wine.
