On Monday August 24th, the Teen Anime and Manga Club of the Duluth Public Library welcomed visiting Japanese students to the library for an hour of playing games, making keyrings, and eating pizza. Fourteen Japanese students from Ami-Machi, Japan, which is the sister city of Superior, Wisconsin, joined dozens of Duluth students. Everyone had a great time meeting each other and learning about what life is like for one another.
The American students shared pictures they had drawn and even shared their favorite anime and manga sites. As students talked and laughed, they enjoyed food, pop, and ice cream bars. At the end of the visit, each Japanese teen received a Duluth Library 125th Anniversary T-shirt and left with lasting memories.
The library’s Teen Anime and Manga Club meets monthly in the Green Room and is open to all area teens in grades 6-12. Club activities and food are sponsored by the Duluth Library Foundation.
