Robin Ongaro believed in enriching children’s lives through literature. As a child, she read voraciously; as an adult, she continued to have a passion for reading, and she taught her daughter, Amy Zontelli, and granddaughter, Lily Zontelli, to do the same.

Robin was born in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1959, and died in September 2012. Her husband, Frank Ongaro, and her friends created the Robin Ongaro Child Nutrition and Literacy Foundation—Robin’s Fund, for short—to honor Robin’s life and exemplify her belief that it is the sacred responsibility of the community to nurture children’s bodies and children’s minds.

This September, the Duluth Library Foundation received a generous gift of $5,000 from Robin’s Fund. This donation moved us significantly closer to our 2015 goal of raising $100,000 to fund children’s and teens library programs and materials. It was, above all, a wonderful tribute to Robin, a bibliophile and vibrant spirit, and will further a cause that she loved: inspiring children to read.
