The Duluth Public Library strengthens our community by promoting the love of reading and lifelong discovery, helping ensure children are ready and excited to learn, offering robust connections to the digital world, and providing a creative and welcoming environment for all.
Books, programs, and devoted library staff help people of all backgrounds find opportunities and better their lives. Library staff help job seekers, students, researchers, and seniors find the answers they need. The computers, printers, and Internet access available at the library make it a lifeline for many in our community.
Even now, our library is a cornerstone of creativity and stability for the community. Although the library has temporarily closed its doors owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, it continues to adapt in order to keep serving the community. It dramatically expanded its online offerings of digital books, newspapers, and databases and offers an enhanced assortment of online resources for students—including educational resources for students coping with distance learning—and adults. It provided E-access cards to allow people without library cards a way to tap into the library’s expanded digital collection. It delivered clean, new, free books to children at risk of low literacy who may not have books at home. It launched curbside delivery of books. As circumstances change, the library will continue to evolve its services and help our community get back on its feet.
That is our library: continuing to serve the community in innovative ways, expanding our imaginations beyond the walls of our homes, and keeping us connected at a time of social distancing. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow: the library is here.
