What We Do

The City of Duluth budget does not include funding for library programs and has limited funds for materials. The Duluth Library Foundation helps fill this gap by raising private funds from individuals and organizations to purchase books and materials, invest in new technology, and to support programs for children, teens, families, and adults. Your support also helps grow an endowment to sustain our library’s legacy now and for future generations.

Each year, on top of special project funding, the Foundation gifts 3% – 5% of the value of the endowment to the Library. As a result, the library has been able to offer significantly more. Since its beginning, the Library Foundation has provided more than $900,000 to the Duluth Public Library.

Equally important is advocacy. The Duluth Library Foundation champions the idea that the library should serve the current generation and should be there for future generations, adapting as new technologies are introduced, but always serving the needs of the community.
